My Biggest Mini Series

I mapped my road trip across the Isle of Harris and Lewis!

In 2023 I went on a pretty amazing road trip to the Outer Hebrides and it was one of my favourtie trips to date, the islands are incredible. We started off the trip by driving from Edinburgh to Achmelvich Bay, which is a long old way but wow, it was worth it!

We then headed down to Ullapool to catch the ferry over to Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis. We stayed in a little yurt on Lewis looking out across the sea and we were treated to the most magical sunset on arrival! If you’ve ever been to Harris and Lewis one of the most mind boggling things I think is how flat Lewis is compared to Harris. Harris is full of dramatic mountains, winding roads, not knowing whats over the hill or round the bend. Lewis in comparison felt like you could see for miles and miles across the fields.

This trip was really where my creative spark returned, having graduated in 2021 I wasn’t sure where my personal practice was going to go but the landscapes on Harris really inspired me. On return I began to work on some small watercolour landscapes from my flat (some of these are still my most popular now) , I’d done lots of sketch booking and wanted a way to commemorate this trip for myself. Not only because it was a great adventure, but also because it marked the start of a new creative journey!

It’s a really special piece to me but I love how other people can also relate and impart their stories and travels onto it too.
