My First Workshop
One of my 2025 goals was to really push myself to trying new things creatively and one of these was to start running workshops from my studio. I want to facilitate a space for people to come together and tap into their creative side for a few hours. No experience needed, just a place to play and create art.
Earlier this year I rediscovered my love of collaging, having watched my mum create some amazing collages I was inspired.
I started by painting crazy amounts of papers in a whole range of colours and textures, being really expressive and free with my strokes. Using different brushes and tools to create marks, I then went straight into playing around with composing landscapes and discovered how much you can do with a pair of scissors and some glue.
So, I decided this was to be my first workshop. I wanted the workshop to have some structure and so the theme of the collages were landscapes. I also wanted to allow people to try all stages of the collage process-from painting the paper to the final piece. However, due to the time frame I also wanted to have lots of pre-painted paper available to people to go alongside their own.
I was SO nervous before the first one, all the imposter syndrome thoughts were flooding in but once we got started I really enjoyed it. I loved seeing how everyone interpreted their landscapes differently, which paper people chose and seeing everyone really zone in to what they were creating.
The final results on both workshops were so lovely, I was really blown away by all the different collages that came out of the workshops and by how much people enjoyed the process.
I am hoping to put on a workshop a month in 2026. There will be a mixture to pick from- collage, tetrapak and many more.
